Saagar was a comeback film for Kapadia, and contained a fleeting topless shot of Dimple. Also, Saagar was the Indian entry to Oscar for the year 1985 under the Best Foreign Film Category.
This movie is a triangular love story. Mona (Dimple Kapadia) runs a small restaurant in Goa, Raja (Kamal Hassan) lives close by and is a good friend. Raja is in love with her but is unable to admit his feelings.
Meanwhile Ravi (Rishi Kapoor) is from a rich industrialist family and moves to Goa from the US. Mona and Ravi fall in love. But Raja doesn't know about it. Ravi's grandmother is opposed to their love because of class differences.
